VENUE UPDATE:
We wish to share an update on London Royal Docks following a meeting today with the Good Hotel team. For some time, we have been working closely with Pontoon and Dock on plans to install new pontoon infrastructure at the west end of the hotel. Unfortunately, we’ve just been advised that this location is not viable. This was our preferred option and we were hopeful we could make this work, but we now need to move forward with an alternative. It is now our intention to operate from the east side of the hotel instead.
This means revisiting a number of things including all operational procedures, the pontoon design, and several approvals and sign-offs that need to follow from the new layout. There are real factors influencing the reopening timeline: pontoon acquisition and installation, additional works within the hotel to support swimmers, and final sign-off from insurers, Royal Docks Waterways, and the Good Hotel team.
We understand the frustration of not having a confirmed date but we won't commit to one until we're confident we can deliver on it. We've been operating at London Royal Docks for over ten years. Every decision we're making is about still being here, doing this well, ten years from now. That means taking the time to get things right rather than rushing something that affects the long-term future of open water swimming at this site.
