Do I need to do a Cold Water Induction to swim at LOW venues?

Modified on Fri, 27 Sep at 10:01 AM

Cold Water Inductions are mandatory at certain times of the year at Love Open Water venues.

  • You must complete a Cold Water Induction if the water temperature drops below 15°C at any time during the year.
  • Cold Water Inductions are mandatory between November and March (regardless of water temperature, swim ability or experience)
  • You can complete an online Cold Water Induction (provided by NOWCA).  This is to be completed PRIOR to your swim and is an online course which can be completed in your own time.
  • To book an online induction, please search for your Love Open Water venue on ACTiO and choose Online Course Cold Water Induction listed under Available Activities. Choose any date available and once booked you will receive details on how to access the course which can be done at ANY time.
  • Your venue may also offer onsite inductions.  If this is the case, this will be listed as Onsite Cold Water Induction
  • You can check the latest water temperature at LOW venues on our website https://loveopenwater.co.uk/swimming-venues/

** you only need to complete the Cold Water Induction once (not every winter season)

** the NOWCA online course is hosted on an external platform. Full details are provided in the activity description on ACTiO and instructions on how to access the course will be included in your confirmation email once you have booked

** Onsite inductions completed at non Love Open Water sites will not be accepted

** NOWCA updates profiles weekly, so please bring proof of your completion certificate if you have only recently completed the induction.
